Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken.  She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans.  But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up.  While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them.

With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own — a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured.  But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.

~~ 4 “Broken” Stars ~~

I really enjoyed this story.  This is the first book by Prescott Lane that I have read, and it won’t be the last. I will say that her writing style took me a little bit to get used too (it’s in the third person).  I think what I had to get used to the most was the changing of POV in the middle of a page or chapter.  You really needed to pay attention so that you caught the changes so it didn’t get confusing.  Once I got used to that, the book and story flowed very well.  I love a book that can provide dual POV…one thing I loved about this book is it provided multiple POV’s.  It was great to read the thoughts of not only Reed and Peyton but all the side characters as well.  You never had to wonder how or what someone was feeling or thinking.  I will say that I thought that the pace was good but there some spots that I thought dragged alittle but didn’t take away from me enjoying the story.

This story I thought showed how love and relationships are a marathon and not a sprint….that if you are truly patient things will work themselves out.  Patience is truly a virtue :).

Reed and Peyton are the main characters of the story.  I found that I really liked these two…they were relatable and believable.  Both of these characters are truly broken, like the title states, but for completely different reasons.  They also dealt with the past issues in two completely different ways, but when they finally came together they both realized that they were what each other needed to heal.  In this book we find out through little hints as to what happened to Peyton, although I guessed it right away, she finally tells Reed exactly what happened by about the 50% mark of the book.  It took almost the whole book to find out what happened to Reed and what broke him, I really wish his would’ve come out sooner, so we would’ve seen them working together to overcome things more.    I loved the pace the author took for these two. She definitely didn’t rush anything between these two.  She actually made Reed work a little bit to gain the affection and attention of Peyton,  that was great !!! These two also had amazing chemistry.  Even though it took most of the book before sex was brought it in….the author truly knows how to write a steamy scene without sex 😉

We met quite a few secondary characters in this story….some that were completely lovable (Quinn, Bret, Marion, and Dr. Lorraine) and some not so lovable (Richard, Heather and Griffin).  The banter between the main characters and the lovable ones was truly great.  It had me chuckling many times throughout the book.

I would recommend this book if you are looking for that really good love story between two broken souls who truly become better after finding each other.  This is Book Bitch approved 🙂
