“I’m intrigued. Tempted beyond what I’ve ever been before. To know her, to open her up. To break her.”
In love, sometimes what you fear most is exactly what you need.
Laura Drake is an author. She writes bestselling paranormal romances that continue to top the charts. She is sharp. She is confident. She is in control.
And she doesn’t exist.
Samantha Jansen is the woman behind the wig, the woman most of the world doesn’t know exists. She is shy. She is insecure. She is nothing like her main character or her alter ego. She is scarred—deeply scarred—by a past she can’t let go of and a present she can’t make peace with.
Samantha’s dreams are consumed by one man, the broken hero from her books. Mason Strait is both her wildest fantasy and her most terrifying nightmare.
When Samantha meets Alec Brand, a corporate consultant, it is as though Mason has come to life. Alec is handsome to a fault, as elegant as he is arrogant, and more intense than any man has a right to be.
Samantha is soon sucked into a world that mirrors the fiction she writes. Just like her main character, Daire Kirby, Samantha finds herself unable to resist the forbidden lure of Alec. And just like Daire, she also finds that she is faced with taking a chance on a man who could either set her free or destroy her.
The scale tilts toward destruction when Samantha finds out that Alec is as much a work of fiction as Mason. And he has scars of his own, scars that could ruin them both.
Sorry, I am getting wordy these days. I think Lisa might be rubbing off on me 😉 Read on!!
It’s no secret that Michelle Leighton is one of my most favorite authors and not just for her FABULOUS writing, she is an amazing person too! I feel lucky to have been able to hang out with her a few times. So every time she contacts me about another one of her books, I do a little(ok, big) happy dance.
In Until I Break, Samantha and Alec’s story will make your heart do a few flips(or more) in your chest and also cause you a few panty changes 😉 Samantha Jenson is happy living her life as a secret writer of paranormal romance. Her past is holding her back from her real life romance but can writing about sex be enough for her forever?? Ummm….No!!! Especially when Alec Brand walks into her life. TWICE!! And he is looks just like the sexy vampire, Mason, she writes about. Wow…Alec!! There is so much I could say about him. He is…
Handsome – “jet-black hair” “broad chest” “Long, muscular legs” “eyes are a soft , pale green”
Gruff –“Yes, tonight is your free night. Your last chance to back out. Tomorrow, I won’t be taking no for an answer. Do you understand?”
Direct – “I’m not the warm and fuzzy type, Samantha. It’s not my intention to make you feel love. I don’t have that kind of emotion in me. But there are other things I can give you, other things I can make you feel. Really feel.”
Controlling – “You will come all over my cock,” “and then you’re gonna keep coming while I fill you up. Do you understand?”
But most of all, damaged. Oh, Alec is so broken. But, so is Samantha. These two are a disaster together but also meant for each other. They have no idea how much they can save one another from the horribleness(yes, I am making up words now) that is called their past.
The initial Alec in this story actually scared me or would have scared me in real life. I was thinking to myself…No, Samantha!!!….why are you getting in the car with him?? He could be a killer!! He sounds psychotic!! But, just like most heroines, she did not listen to my words of wisdom. Thank goodness she had great instincts, though. Alec’s harsh words nor the directness of his intentions deterred her. She had a feeling about him. Don’t get me wrong, initially it was just lust and sex appeal that hooked her, but after she broke down a few of his well built walls, she could see the good. I personally would have run away as fast as I my short little legs could take me. Bad boys are most definitely my kryptonite but this certain bad boy actually intrigued me and scared me all at the same time.
Unlike the saying, save the best for last, I normally save the last paragraph of my reviews for the things I didn’t like. But, in this case, I have nothing for this paragraph!! I have racked my brain for 2 days trying to make sure I can honestly say that I enjoyed every page of this book. YES, I can say that!! The words just flowed right off the page and into my little imaginary world that I read in. Then, before I know it, I am done and wanting more. Michelle’s words have always captivated me but this story is my all time favorite of hers. Do you know how the bad boy sometimes turns into a mush of girliness(more of my words) by the end of the story?? That irritates me!!! Just because he falls in love, does not mean he has to become someone totally different. I need my bad boy to still man up and Alec does!!! It was such a relief to see that transition not happen.
This is another FABULOUS must read from a FABULOUS person. Read it!!!!
