~~Blog Stop~~Where I Need To Be by Kimberly Knight

An interview with Kimberly Knight and a review of Where I Need To Be!!!

Where I Need to Be Cover - Medium

Hi, Kimberly and thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions about you and your book, Where I Need To Be 🙂

First, tell us a little about yourself?

Well, I’m a wife, Office Manager/Paralegal by day and an aspiring writer by night. I enjoy a good romance novel and a sucker for smut! I am addicted to reality TV and dramas, but I am also a bit of a nerd and play World of Warcraft, lol. I love watching hockey, baseball and football on TV and try to go to games each season.

LOL…who doesn’t like a good smutty book 😉 When did you discover you liked writing and what inspired you to write?

I didn’t know I would like writing until I actually started doing it. My friend and I would joke about writing a book and one day, I just started writing. I never thought I would actually publish it! I really wanted to write a book where the lead female wasn’t a virgin and she wouldn’t bolt out the door when shit hit the fan. I have read so many books like that (many of them good), but I was getting tired of seeing the same type of storyline used over and over again and wanted to see if I could write something different.

I agree with you!! I get tired of reading about the whiney girls who can’t deal with life. I love a strong female character in the books I read. Where did the idea of Where I Need To Be come from?

When I was writing Where I Need to Be, I didn’t know how everything would play out. I actually had only the bar scene in Vegas in my head before I started writing. I did, however, text my friend that I was running next to my own Gideon Cross one day at the gym, but that didn’t pop into my head until I decided to have Spencer go to the gym. So yeah, everything started with just my idea to create a strong female character.

Everybody needs a little Gideon or Brandon eye candy while they are working out 😉 Unlike most other books, why did you decide to use a short timeline in your book?

I had to use a short timeline in Where I Need to Be because of the twist. I know some people think that it lacked depth and I masked over stuff with sex, but realistically speaking, when you are in a new relationship, aren’t you getting busy 24/7? I don’t want to give anything away to those that still haven’t read my book, but Wanted will not be based on a short timeline and you will learn more about Spencer and about Brandon’s past.

We look forward to more of Brandon and Spencer. Are they characteristic of anyone in particular or are they made up?

They are mainly fictional, but Spencer has some of my own characteristics as well as some characteristics of a few of my friends. They say write what you know, right? Also Brandon isn’t really based on anyone I know personally, but Brandon Crawford from the San Francisco Giants did inspire my Brandon’s smile.

How long did it take you to write Where I Need To Be?

It only took me about a month and half. Edits took about that much time, too. I started writing in early September 2012 and as you know, my first book was published on December 14th 2012. There were some delays and it could have been out sooner, so hopefully I have learned from this first experience and Wanted will be out in a few months. 🙂

We look forward to it 🙂 And now the most important question is, how many books do you plan to write in this series and will they all be about Spencer and Brandon?

I plan to only write three for Spencer and Brandon; however, you will get a glimpse of Brandon’s brother in Wanted and more of him in my third book. I plan to write a trilogy about his brother and will have Spencer and Brandon make appearances. Gotta love the Montgomery boys! 😉

Thanks so much to Kimberly Knight for answering our questions and we look forward to more to come from you 🙂

Spencer has just caught her boyfriend of two years, Travis (also known as TravAss) cheating with his secretary.  Her roommate and best friend, Ryan, gets on her case for moping around the apartment and forces her to go to the new gym nearby.  Although she doesn’t want to go, Spencer goes because she has to write an article on the gym for a work assignment. There Spencer sees the hottest guy she has ever seen.  For a whole week they exchange nothing more than smiles.  Spencer and Ryan decide to go to Vegas to live it up.  Fate intervenes and Mr. Hot Guy from the gym is on the same flight to Vegas.  Once there, they see each other at a club.  They dance in a very hot scene and then he leaves without saying goodbye.  They then see each other at a casino and play cards.  Again, things go no further.  Once they return from Vegas, Spencer and Brandon (the hot guy) see each other again at the gym again and begin a relationship in which they fall in love and have lots of hot sex.  Enter Brandon’s crazy ex-girlfriend and lots of great friends and you have a great story.

This is Kimberly’s debut novel and I think she did a great job.  I loved the characters.  Brandon was a doll- so sweet and so hot!  Spencer was so upset over Travis that I was glad she finally found the man of her dreams.  Thankfully the crazy ex-girlfriend doesn’t succeed in breaking them up.  There is a LOT of hot, steamy sex in this book.  I mean a lot!!!  This book has it all- drama, love, sex, friendship, and humor.  Kimberly’s writing sucks you in and is so easy to read.

The only thing I wanted different was the length of the book- it is short.  I wanted it to go more in depth at some points.  However, this seems to be just the beginning of the story of Spencer and Brandon and I am curious to see where it is going in Book 2.  I recommend this book and can’t wait for book 2!
