I loved this book- what a great debut novel by E.L. Montes!! What a great story and gorgeous cover!
This is the story of Mia and Marcus. Mia is finishing up her first year of law school at Harvard and one of her professors approaches her to let her know he has submitted her name for a summer externship at one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston, The Law Office of Marcus DeLuca. The office is owned by one of the youngest, richest and hottest lawyers in Boston- Marcus DeLuca. Mia’s roommate, Jeremy, has also gotten an interview for an externship and they go out to a club to celebrate. It turns out the club is also owned by Marcus and he spots Mia, approaches her and gives her a ride home. This starts their relationship.
Their relationship is very rocky and dysfunctional. It goes very, very fast- they only know each other a few days and they go away together. And Marcus is involved with the mafia and keeps a lot of secrets from Mia. There are so many ups and downs, such intense love and terrible fights. You get emotional whiplash reading this book and I loved it! I felt so bad for Marcus- he really was a good guy who was just involved in something he felt couldn’t get out of. He felt he was keeping secrets to protect Mia, but she did not see that- she saw deception and betrayal. I also felt sorry for Mia- she loved him fiercely but the secrets and lies were too much for her. And she has no one in her life- no family and no friends except for Jeremy. She fits in so well with Marcus’ family- his mother and niece, and you feel happy for her that she feels she belongs somewhere. However, she needs to decide if she can continue with their relationship or not. Then she learns the one secret that hurts her the most- and she makes that decision. Can she do what she feels is the right thing and leave him or can she forgive him when she is so in love with him and he with her?
I loved the characters in this book and the detail in the writing. Besides Mia and Marcus, there were a lot of other great characters in the book- Marcus’ brother Jimmie, the Mafia bad guy Lou and Mia’s mother who comes back into her life. The ending was great- it leaves you hanging but not in a huge cliffhanger, which I liked. It gives you an idea of how book 2, Cautious, will begin and. I am very curious to see where Mia and Marcus’ relationship goes in the next book. It was also a pleasant surprise to see there was a bonus chapter at the end giving Marcus’ point of view- I loved it! E.L. did a fabulous job and this is a must read!

I kept seeing Disastrous by E.L. Montes being talked about all over facebook, so, of course, I had to jump on board!! If most of you haven’t figured it out yet, I love books full of drama, love triangles, HOT guys, emotional rollercoasters and independent women. Well, Disastrous exceeded all that and will now be put on my highly recommend to everyone list!!
This story is all about Marcus and Mia. Marcus is a lawyer and Mia is a law student. Mia is set up to interview as an extern at Marcus’ law firm but first meets him at his club through her roommate, Jeremy. Marcus and Mia immediately feel a connection but Mia is worried that their relationship could affect her externship. But what she doesn’t know is that the externship should be the least of her worries. Marcus has many secrets and like most guys, he is not easily persuaded to tell them. This starts a serious of events that will rock both their worlds.
These two have more ups and downs than the Rocky Mountains and in a very short period of time. And by short period of time, I am talking like 2 months!! I love a strong female character and Mia is a smart and strong woman. But, there were a few times that I thought she gave in a little too easy to Marcus. Marcus….Oh, I loved Marcus even if he did have terrible communications skills. (what man doesn’t…HA!) But, Marcus still was a sweet and sexy, family man even if he had those serious secrets!
I couldn’t put this book down and loved every character in this story. I felt that every character brought something very important to the story. Jeremy, Mia’s roommate, of course was a major character because of his part in her meeting Marcus. Then there is Marcus’ brother, Jimmie and Jimmie’s daughter, Elle. There are many more but without giving away too much of the twists, I can’t mention them all. Just know that every character played an important role in Marcus and Mia’s relationship.
I enjoyed the way this story was written. I could picture every scene as if I was there. I really do get sucked in to the character’s lives and the author made it so easy for me. The ending is sort of a cliff hanger but not enough to piss you off. It leaves you with just enough knowledge to want to bug her about hurrying up with the next book 🙂
I will leave you with my favorite quote in the whole book because love truly is scary…
“That’s what love is…It’s scary not knowing what’s expected, but I know it’ll be the best frightening love we’ve ever had.”
